Danish District Heating welcomes the decision on the upcoming offshore wind farms Nordsøen Midt and Hesselø, which are expected to deliver at least 1.8 GW of green electricity to Denmark from 2032.

An interesting point in the news is the interaction between offshore wind and district heating.

When offshore wind production is highest in winter, it is also the period when the need for heat is greatest. Here, district heating companies' heat pumps and electric boilers play an important role by converting green electricity into heat for millions of consumers.

District heating also contributes important flexibility to the energy system.

When there is a surplus of power, the energy can be utilized and stored for later use through, among other things, accumulation tanks. This supports both security of supply and a more efficient use of the energy produced.

This points to a development that we find particularly interesting:
The closer the connection between electricity production and district heating becomes, the greater the focus will be on minimizing energy loss throughout the chain. From heat pumps and electric boilers to pipe systems, valves, pumps and other technical installations.

Here, effective technical insulation helps to preserve energy in the system. That is why PUR insulation is already widely used today in district heating systems, where the desire is to reduce heat loss and support stable and energy-efficient operation.

Offshore wind is naturally about producing more green energy.

But it is also about how we get the most value out of that energy once it is produced.
