A formwork or mold doesn't have to be heavy to be robust. With PUR and fiberglass coating, you can combine low weight with a strong surface – and at the same time make daily handling easier.

PUR formwork are used again and again in production and on construction sites. Therefore, it is not only the shape itself that is important. Weight, handling, durability and the possibility of recycling also have an impact on how the formwork functions in everyday life.

These were some of the factors that were in focus when we developed the mold/box in PUR with glass fiber coating.

Why choose PUR for formwork?

When choosing a material for formwork, it is important to consider strength, weight and the loads the structure needs to withstand.

PUR has a low density and can therefore be used to create lightweight structures, while the material can be combined with a fiberglass coating to provide a robust surface.

This makes PUR an interesting option for solutions where the formwork needs to be handled and moved repeatedly.

In this specific solution, the choice of material was key to achieving a low-weight construction and, consequently, to how the formwork could be handled.

Lightweight formwork makes a difference to the working environment

On a construction site, formwork is not just part of the casting process. It also needs to be moved, positioned, emptied, cleaned and prepared for the next pour.

Here, a lower weight can make daily handling easier while also reducing the need for heavy lifting equipment.

In this specific solution, the low weight means that the formwork can be handled without mobile crane. This provides a simpler workflow and can also reduce the resources required for lifting equipment and handling.

However, the benefits of low weight depend on the overall construction. The size, design and loads the formwork needs to withstand are all factors that need to be taken into account.

PUR combined with fiberglass

Low weight is only interesting if the formwork can also withstand the way it is used. That is why the PUR formwork is equipped with a fiberglass coating. The fiberglass provides a robust surface that is suitable for formwork that must be handled and used repeatedly. At the same time, there is a difference in working environment compared to traditional wooden shuttering.

When handling wood, splinters can be a challenge. A fiberglass coated surface provides a different type of contact surface, avoiding the problems that can be associated with splinters from wood.
